On the Kacchi Plain of Balochistan, Pakistan, close to the Bolan Pass, is the Neolithic archaeological site known as Mehrgarh. It is situated between the current Pakistani cities of Quetta, Kalat, and Sibi, close to the Bolan Pass and west of the Indus River. According to early evidence, civilisation may have existed in Mehrgarh as early as 7000 BCE, or 3500 years before the Indus Civilisation. Some of the earliest traces of farming and animal husbandry in that area have been found during an archaeological excavation.
