Rice is the chief staple food crop consumed by most people in India.
India is the second major producer of rice in the world. It is a regular staple food and constitutes a major part of India’s diet. Rice is a Kharif crop cultivated during the monsoon season prevalent in India. Jowar, bajra, and wheat are some of the most cultivated crops. Rice is sown in June-July and harvested in November-December. Once the rice is sown, the fields are flooded periodically to provide the necessary irrigation. Once harvested, the rice is processed, prepared for the market, and transported.
