Atal tunnel is the world's longest highway tunnel in the world. The Atal Tunnel which is also known as Rohtang Tunnel was named after former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is a road tunnel built under Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir range, Himalayan Panjal in the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India. At 9.02 km long, it is the longest single-tube highway tunnel over 10,000 feet (3,048 m) in the world. With the existing Atal tunnel and after the Shingo La tunnel under construction, expected to be completed in 2025, the new Leh-Manali Expressway crosses the Nimmu-Padum road -Darcha will become an all-weather road.
