Detailed Solution

Bengal and Bombay in India were home to 67% of the major industries in 1911.  After the First World War, small-scale manufacturing grew gradually while large-scale firms were scarce. The major industries were based in Bengal and Bombay when the 20th century began in 1911. One of the reasons for this was their proximity to the sea. These two cities' status as ports facilitated British trade on global markets. The remainder of the country was still dominated by small-scale production. Only 5% of the industrial labour force worked in registered businesses in 1911. The remaining people were employed in tiny homes and workplaces, usually tucked away in obscure roads and alleyways unreachable to onlookers.
