'Chahalgani' means Turkish noble under Iltutmish.
Iltutmish made the decision to set up an administration when he became ruler of the Delhi sultanate in order to establish the groundwork for his eventual hegemony over north India. He assembled a group of 40 nobles who played significant roles in the running of the Delhi Sultanate. They were all accomplished nobility from Turkey. He gave them the name Chahalgani.
