Let the width be x m and the length be y m.  

The corresponding values of x and y for this equation can be given as: 

The linear equation can be written as y=mx+b.

Here for y=3=3m+b   ----(1)

For y=6=4m+b   ---(2)

Solving (1) & (2) 

3=m

Substituting the value of m= 3 in equation (1).

$$\begin{gathered} 3\times 3+b=3 \\ b=-6 \end{gathered}$$

Therefore the linear equation corresponding to the value is y = 3x − 6,

Therefore the length is 6 m less than three times its width.
