Detailed Solution

The port cities of Bordeaux and Nantes can be said to have benefited economically from the thriving slave trade in the 17th century. The eradication of slavery in the French colonies was one of the social reforms that made the Jacobin administration famous. In the seventeenth century, the slave trade started. From the ports of Bordeaux and Nantes, French traders travelled to the coast of Africa, where they procured slaves from regional chiefs. After branding, these slaves were crammed aboard the ships for a three-month trip to the Caribbean, where they were ultimately sold to the plantation owners. The thriving slave trade was responsible for the economic prosperity of port communities like Bordeaux and Nantes. Sugar, coffee, and indigo farms all engaged in slave exploitation.
