Kandla, Mumbai, and Marmagao are Western sea ports. As a result of Karachi port being lost to Pakistan after Partition, Kandla in Kachchh was the first port to be created shortly after Independence to reduce the volume of commerce on the Mumbai port. Kandla is a tidal port also referred to as the Deendayal Port. The largest port is Mumbai, which has a large, naturally protected harbor. To relieve the Mumbai port's congestion and act as a hub port for this area, the Jawaharlal Nehru port was designed. The main port used by the nation to export iron ore is Marmagao port in Goa. About 50% of India's iron ore exports come from this port. In order to ease mounting demand on the Kolkata port, Haldia Port was Created as a Subsidiary Port.
