When copper sulphate is treated with sodium hydroxide the compound of blue colour that forms is called copper hydroxide precipitate.
Copper sulphate reacts with sodium hydroxide to form a blue precipitate of copper hydroxide and sodium sulphate. It is a double displacement reaction and is also called a precipitation reaction due to the formation of a blue precipitate called copper hydroxide. The reaction can be shown as follows:
