Lucas reagent is the mixture of conc. HCl and anhydrous ZnCl₂. Primary, secondary, tertiary alcohols form corresponding alkyl halide when treated with Lucas reagent. But in absence of Lucas reagent, only tertiary alcohol forms corresponding alkyl halide because the reactivity of tertiary alcohol is greater than primary and secondary alcohol.
