Detailed Solution

After the Ganga, the Godavari is the longest river in India. Its origin is in the Nasik district of Triambakeshwar, Maharashtra.

It drains the states of Maharashtra (48.6%), Telangana (18.8%), Andhra Pradesh (4.5%), Chhattisgarh (10.9%), and Odisha (5.7%) as it travels east for 1,465 kilometres (910 mi), eventually emptying into the Bay of Bengal through its complex network of tributaries.

It constitutes one of the largest river basins on the Indian subcontinent, with a maximum area of 312,812 km2 (120,777 sq mi). Only the Ganga and Indus rivers have a greater drainage basin.
The Godavari, also known as the Vridha Ganga, is the greatest river in peninsular India in terms of length, catchment area, and flow.
