Detailed Solution

Harshavardhana performed the Ashwamedha sacrifice several times.
Offering a horse sacrifice, or Ashvamedha, was a necessary ritual for a raja. Ashvamedha or horse sacrifice was used to identify males as ‘rajas.’ A horse was left to travel freely. However, they would have to engage in combat if it ventured into another country and the ruler of that region stopped it. The raja who won the contest was acknowledged as being more assertive. The sacrifice would then be made, and other kings would attend. The last Hindu emperor to rule over North India was Harshavardhana. He is credited with multiple instances of the Ashvamedha sacrifice.
