The Dead Sea, a small water body (lake) in the Jordan valley of Africa, is the saltiest sea, with a salt content of about 300 g per litre of water. The high salinity of the body does not support the growth of plants or organisms as found in other saltwater bodies. The sea is of tectonic origin, flowing through the rift valley between the Arabian and African plates.
