Sexual reproduction is the method of reproduction in which offspring is produced by the fusion of dissimilar gametes.

This process includes 3 stages namely, pre-fertilisation, fertilisation, and post-fertilisation.

Pre-fertilisation includes the formation of gamete cells by gametogenesis. In males, the testis produces sperm by spermatogenesis while in females the ovary produces an egg cell by oogenesis.
Fertlisation includes the fusion of the sperm and egg to form a diploid single-celled zygote.
Post-fertilisation includes the further development of the zygote cell. In humans, the zygote repeatedly divides to form an embryo and embeds itself in the uterine lining for embryogenesis whereas, in plants, the zygote develops into a seed containing an embryo and endosperm.
