Mixing sodium hydroxide in water is an example of an exothermic reaction.
The reactions that are categorised by the release of energy in the form of heat and light into the surroundings are known as exothermic reactions. When solid sodium hydroxide reacts with water, sodium and hydroxide ions both have the capability of interacting with the water, and a very large amount of energy is released. Hence, it is an exothermic reaction. Its reaction is given as
NaOH(s)+H2O(l)NaOH(aq)+Heat
If we increase the temperature for exothermic reactions, it will go backward and lead to endothermic reactions. Examples for exothermic reactions are combustion, thermite, combination of strong acid and base.
