When XeF6  reacts with a small amount of water, it undergoes partial hydrolysis to form xenon trioxide (XeO3) and hydrogen fluoride (HF) according to the following equation:

XeF6 + 3H2O → XeO3 + 6HF

When XeF6  reacts with a higher amount of water, it undergoes further hydrolysis to form xenon oxydifluoride (XeO2F2) and xenon oxytetrafluoride (XeOF4) according to the following equation:

XeF6  + 4H2O → XeO2F2 + 2XeOF4 + 6HCl
