Sequence of transfer of energy and matter in the form of food is termed as food chain. Detritus food chain begins with dead organic matter. Detritivores (e.g., earthworm) and decomposers feed over it and get energy. A detritus food chain is often connected to a grazing food chain where detritivores and decomposers are consumed by small carnivores which in tum are eaten by larger carnivores and so on.
