The following statement is NOT true:  The pattern of the magnetic field lines around a current-carrying solenoid is different than that of a bar magnet

Explanation: When an electric current flows through a conductor, a magnetic field is set up all along the length of the conductor.

The magnetic field lines are induced in the form of concentric circles around the conductor.

Points to be noted about the magnetic effect of electric current:

1. The greater the current through the conductor, the stronger the magnetic field.

2. The magnetic field near the conductor is stronger and weaker as we move away from the conductor.

3. The magnetic lines of force around the conductor will be either clockwise or anticlockwise, depending upon the direction of the current.

4. One may use the Right-hand rule or Maxwell's corkscrew rule to determine the direction of the magnetic field around the conductor

5. The shape of the magnetic field depends upon the shape of the conductor.

From the above, it is clear that the magnetic field produced by a given current in the conductor decreases as the distance from it increases and vice versa.

The pattern of the magnetic field lines around a current-carrying solenoid is the same as that of a bar magnet.

It is also clear that Maxwell's corkscrew rule gives the direction of the magnetic field.

An electromagnet is a temporary magnet that should ideally have the property to behave as a magnet when current passes through a solenoid and lose magnetism as soon as the current is stopped.

Hence, we can say that The pattern of the magnetic field lines around a current-carrying solenoid is the same as that of a bar magnet not different.
