Detailed Solution

The total momentum of a system can be changed if external forces act on it.
The total momentum of two or more bodies working on each other in an isolated system must remain constant until an external force is applied, according to the law of conservation of momentum. Because of this, momentum cannot be created or destroyed. Conservation of momentum is actually a direct consequence of Newton's third law. It is applied when two or more particles collide or a single particle gets divided.
