Detailed Solution

Black soil is found in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh
which fall under the Deccan plateau region. The plateau region of India, extending in a triangular shape from south of river Narmada to Kanyakumari, is rich in the black soil of volcanic origin. The Deccan plateau covers the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. Black soil has water retention properties, making them suitable for the cultivation of crops like cotton. The soil is rich in minerals and has a fine texture. Black soil is formed by the disintegration of igneous rocks formed from molten, solidified magma. Since it is formed from the solidification of lava, black soil is also known as lava soil.
