Detailed Solution

Maharashtra state is the leading producer of Jowar.
Jowar is one of the most important millets grown in India. Millets like ragi, Jowar, Bajra, etc., are called coarse grains. The meaning of the term ‘coarse’ is rough texture. Thus these grains are not smooth and have a rough surface. Cultivation of these grains requires a very less amount of water and is grown in water deficit areas. Jowar is the third most important food crop based on production and area. It is mostly grown in moist areas that hardly need irrigation. Major Jowar-producing states are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.
