The Constitution of India divides the power of the center and the states into three lists- the Union, State, and Concurrent lists. In the Union List, the subjects over which the centre has the authority to make laws are mentioned. In the State list, subjects over which the states have the power to legislate are mentioned. The third list is the Concurrent list that constitutes subjects over which both Centre and State can make laws. But in case of conflicts between their laws, the laws of the Union will prevail.
