National defence is not included in the state list. National Defense is part of the central list and not the provincial list. India's constitution divides power into three categories: the Central List, the Provincial List, and the Related List. The Central List, areas such as power, defence, parliament, foreign, banks, communications, inter-provincial trade, and trade, equally contain 98 subjects in the middle list. On the state list are areas such as public order, police, health and sanitation, agriculture, fisheries, local government, theatres, etc. It contains about 59 subjects. E.g., family planning, census, electricity, employee welfare etc. The GST Act, introduced in 2016, also falls under the corresponding list. Therefore, these forces are divided not only because of their independence but also because of their efficiency.
