Detailed Solution

The red soil has high iron content. Iron diffuses in crystalline and metamorphic rocks, giving red soils a reddish tint. This soil has a pH that ranges from neutral to acidic and is lacking in potash, nitrogen, humus, phosphoric acid, magnesium, and lime. When it is present in hydrated form, it appears yellow. In the eastern and southern regions of the Deccan plateau, where rainfall is often limited, red soil forms atop crystalline igneous rocks. In some areas of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, the southern portions of the middle Ganga plain, and along the piedmont zone of the Western Ghats, yellow and red soils are also present.
