Detailed Solution

Many social, political and cultural factors led to the outbreak of the French Revolution. France had incredibly divided, uneven and oppressive social structures. Taxes were not required to be paid to the state by the clergy or the nobles. The Third Estate enjoyed no political or social rights and was subjected to enormous taxation. Louis XVI fought in several conflicts, leaving the state with no money. He was a remarkably despotic and weak-willed individual. French intellectuals and philosophers like Rousseau advocated for human equality and popular sovereignty while dismissing the idea of absolute monarchy which further drove the nation towards attaining a national identity.
