Detailed Solution

Provinces given autonomy was not a provision of the Act of 1956 passed in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan authority passed an Act in 1956 to recognise Sinhala as the official language. This Act neglected provincial autonomy and didn't give authority to provinces. The new Constitution of Sri Lanka mandated that the state safeguard and promote Buddhism. The governments implemented preferential procedures favouring Sinhala applicants for academic and government employment. The policies, implemented by Sri Lanka through an Act established in 1956, denied Tamils equal work opportunities and neglected their political and other rights.
