Detailed Solution

Awadh was not annexed under the Doctrine of Lapse.
Lord Dalhousie, who served as Governor-General from 1848 until 1856, presided over a series of annexations. He came up with a strategy that became known as the Doctrine of Lapse. According to the idea, an Indian king's state would "lapse" or become a part of the Company's dominion if he died without a male successor. Applying this concept resulted in the simple annexation of kingdom after kingdom, including Satara (1848), Sambalpur (1850), Udaipur (1852), Nagpur (1853), and Jhansi (1854).
