Detailed Solution

Vasumitra was the head of the fourth Buddhist Council. Buddhism is a faith founded on the teachings of Gautam Buddha. There were six Buddhist Councils in total, although only the first four were acknowledged outside of Burma. The fourth Buddhist Council took place in Kashmir in the year 72 AD. It was presided over by Vasumitra and Asvaghosha under the patronage of King Kanishka. This Council was established to settle numerous disputes amongst diverse schools of thought. The Buddhist sects known as the Hinayana and Mahayana split after the fourth Buddhist Council.
