It is also known as Upper Lake. Locally it is referred to as Bhojtal or Bada Talab. It is a big lake on the western outskirts of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh's capital city. Bhojtal is claimed to have been erected by Paramara Raja Bhoj during his reign as monarch of Malwa (1005–1055), according to local legend.
