Detailed Solution

A civil war between Sinhala and Tamil speakers killed thousands of people in Sri Lanka.
By the 1980s, several political organisations had been established, calling for creating an independent Tamil Eelam (state) in Sri Lanka's north and east regions. Widespread strife resulted from the two communities' mistrust of one another which quickly plunged into a civil war. The government and separatist Tamil troops fought a bloody war in Sri Lanka that resulted in nearly 150000 deaths on both sides, including civilians. It took over 26 years for the government to put an end to the terrible war ultimately.
