Detailed Solution

The Chauri-Chaura incident was the reason for calling off the Non-Cooperation Movement by Mahatma Gandhi.
During a clash on February 4, 1922, police opened fire on a large group of protestors engaging in the Non-Cooperation Movement at Chauri Chaura. In revenge, protestors assaulted, encircled, and eventually burned down the police station while the officers were still inside, killing 22 officers. Thus the Non-Cooperation Movement was called off indefinitely by Mahatma Gandhi, who opposed all forms of violence.
