The United Kingdom of Great Britain was the result of the Act of Union 1707. The Act of Union was a two-act of parliament. The union with Scotland act 1706 and the union with England act 1707 were passed by the parliament of Scotland. This was the effect of the terms of the treaty of union. By these two acts the kingdom of England and the kingdom of Scotland with separate legislatures and separate states but with the same monarch. And they both were officially separate kingdoms until 1707.
