Detailed Solution

Low cost of production, easy accessibility of books and increase in literacy rate were amongst the few factors responsible for the virtual reading mania in European countries during the 18th century.
The price of books was lowered because of printing. Each book took less time and labour to make, and it was easier to produce several copies. A new reading culture emerged as a result of increased access to books. Aside from being expensive before the invention of printing, books could not be made in large enough quantities. A brand-new reading public appeared. Most of Europe also saw an increase in literacy rates during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
