Detailed Solution

In India, the pre-colonial ports were Masulipatnam and Surat.
India's coastline is 7516.6 kilometres long, making it one of the world's largest peninsulas. Maritime transport accounts for around 95 per cent of India's volume and 70 per cent of its value exchange, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. In pre-colonial periods, traditional traders in the Gujarat ports of Surat and Hooghly conducted a bustling maritime trade. British corporations had won a monopoly right to trade in India by the end of the 18th century and had slowly achieved influence in India's political affairs. They began trading in transportation in their new port in Bombay. They transported their stuff on European ships. As the trading port of Bombay grew in prominence, the old docks, such as Surat, deteriorated, and the port of Bombay grew in importance.
