Friction is the force that opposes the relative motion between two surfaces of objects when they come in contact. The frictional force is the force which resists sliding or rolling one solid object over the other.
Molecular adhesion is the attraction between different types of molecules. When molecules of different types come in contact with each other, they form weak bonds. When two surfaces are moved against each other, these bonds resist the motion creating friction. The roughness of surfaces can also cause friction. If a body moves over a surface, the grip between the surfaces will be high on a rough surface, resulting in friction between the bodies. In addition, the irregularities of a body increase friction if another body moves over it. Even the smoothest surfaces have minute irregularities in them, and these irregularities of the two surfaces interlock into each other and create friction.
