Concept- Strong acid and powerful oxidizer, nitric acid is both. It produces metal salts, water and nitrogen oxides, when it reacts with metals. Magnesium and manganese, however, combine with extremely diluted nitric acid to produce salt and hydrogen.
The reaction of nitric acid with all the elements given in option :
Mg + HNO3 → Mg(NO3) 2 +H2
Fe + HNO3   → Fe(NO3) 2 + H2O +NO
Cu + HNO3 →Cu(NO3) 2  + H2O + NO2
Zn + HNO3  →Zn(NO3) 2 + H2O + NO2
In only magnesium (Mg) hydrogen evolves as a gas .
