The year 1904 proved to be a bad one for the Russian Workers. It is because of the rise in prices of essential goods that led to the decline of real wages by 20 per cent. Furthermore, the dismissal of the four members of the Assembly of Russian workers at the Putilov Iron Works led to industrial action. Over 110,000 workers went on a strike in St Petersburg, demanding a reduction in hours of the working day to 8 hours, an increment in wages and better working conditions for workers. Later these strikes gave way to the 1905 Revolution.
