Mahatma Gandhi, B R Ambedkar and Periyar Ramaswami Naicker for the caste problems in India. Mahatma Gandhi spoke out against untouchability. He called it a great evil of society and believed in its eradication. He referred to untouchables as Harijans- the children of god- and campaigned to improve their life. Dr B R Ambedkar, the chairman of the drafting committee of the constituent assembly, tried to abolish caste-based discrimination in legal terms. He extensively argued for women's economic and social rights and introduced the reservations as affirmative action for members of the scheduled castes, the scheduled tribes and other backward classes. Periyar Ramaswami Naicker was also a significant figure in abolishing caste inequalities in India. He is the father of the Dravidian movement, who started the self-respect movement to achieve equal rights for all castes. He fought against brahminical dominance and gender and caste inequality in Tamil Nadu.
