Detailed Solution

The characteristics of cathode rays are:

(a) Because the cathode is negatively charged, cathode rays emanate from it. Thus, the gas sample inside the container is struck by those rays and ionized. The expelled electrons from gas ionization go toward the anode. These beams, which are electrons, are really created by the ionization of the gas inside the tube.

(d) A cathode ray is an electron beam that crosses a voltage differential between electrodes in a vacuum tube, moving from the negatively charged cathode at one end to the positively charged anode at the other.

As cathode rays are negatively charged particles they travel from cathode to the anode end which is positively charged. So, option A and D is correct.
