In Bolivia, the water department controlled the water supply of the nation. After the World Bank pressured the government to give up its water supply control, the government gave the water supply contract to an MNC for the city of Cochabamba. It is a known fact that private companies work to earn a profit. The same could be applied to this MNC, which charged exorbitant prices for the water supply services it gave to the people. The water bills of the residents of this city shot up by almost four times which the people could not afford because of their weak economic background. This angered the people and led them to protest against the government in 2000, named as Bolivia’s water war.
