The Election Commission has mandated the conduct of organisational elections within political parties to reform the political parties. Political parties are needed for the rightful functioning of a democratic system. India is a democratic country where numerous political parties exist. However, one of the loopholes in the political party system was that the important decision-making powers within the political parties lie with the top leaders. Hence, the party workers have little say in the functioning of these parties, which was made worse by the fact that political parties also did not hold organisational elections from time to time. To plug in this loophole, the Election Commission ordered all the political parties to conduct organisational elections regularly so that the parties are internally democratic.
