Detailed Solution

Hampi was an important centre of trade and artisanal production. Within the Krishna-Tungabhadra basin, Hampi was situated. It was founded in 1336. It was the epicentre of the Vijayanagara Empire. The commercial and cultural activity was thriving in Hampi. The markets of Hampi were crowded with Moors—a term used to refer to all Muslim dealers—Chettis and representatives of European traders like the Portuguese. Devadasis (temple dancers) performed before the deity, monarchy, and large crowds in the many-pillared halls of the Virupaksha (a type of Shiva) temple, which served as the centre of cultural events.
