The three-step trade process of Indian textile included- financing, carrying and transporting, and supplying to the exporters. The first step was financing the production of the goods. This was done by the supply merchants. The supply merchants worked as a link between the ports and the inland regions. They financed the production by giving advances to the weavers. They were also responsible for transporting the woven cloth, the second step, and supplying them to the exporters, the third step. The export merchants then negotiated the price at the port and bought the goods from the supply merchants.
