The Inland Emigration Act of 1859 is related to the workers of tea plantations.
Under this inhumane act, plantation workers were not permitted to leave the tea gardens without asking for permission, which was most often denied. It was almost a modern form of slavery and bonded labour where the plantation workers suffered from poor living conditions. When the Non-cooperation Movement started, many of these workers joined it and left the plantation, defying the authorities as a sign of protest. However, this protest failed, and the workers were caught before reaching their destination by police, and then they were brutally beaten up.
