Detailed Solution

Greece is known  as the 'cradle of civilisation.'
Greece had been a part of the Ottoman Empire since the fifteenth century. The emergence of revolutionary nationalism in Europe stimulated the Greek independence struggle, which began in 1821. Other Greeks living in exile and many West Europeans with an affinity for ancient Greek culture backed nationalists in Greece. Poets and painters praised Greece as the 'cradle of European civilisation,' rallying support for the country's fight against Muslim rulership. Lord Byron, an English poet, raised finances and later fought in the war, where he died of illness in 1824. Finally, in 1832, the Treaty of Constantinople recognised Greece as a sovereign nation.
