Detailed Solution

Latitude is responsible for the amount of solar energy received. The amount of solar energy received by a region varies with its altitude. The equatorial regions receive direct sun rays. The equatorial zone has equal days and nights since the sun rays are equally distributed. On either side of the equator lies the tropics, from 0° to 23° 30’ north and south. These regions receive high to moderate sun rays. Beyond the tropics lie the temperate zones, from 23° 30’ to 66° 30’ north and south. They receive moderate sun rays, making the climate colder than the tropics. To the extreme north and south, beyond the temperate zone, lies the poles, which receive constant slanting rays of the sun. They have an extremely cold climate.
