Dhangars is a pastoral community of Maharashtra.
Originally from Maharashtra, the Dhangars were pastoral people who frequently travelled in quest of new pastures. The majority of Dhangars were shepherds, but some also worked as buffalo herders as well as blanket weavers. Throughout dry as well as wet seasons, the Dhangars would travel. During the monsoon, Dangers resided on the central plateau part of Maharashtra. Dry crops like bajra were cultivated due to the area's lack of rainfall, dry climate, and poor soil. Large areas of the central plateau region of Maharashtra turned into grazing spaces for their livestock during the wet season. By the last phase of October, the Dhangar had relocated to the Konkan area. For their flocks, these were rich lands. The Dhangars abandoned the plateau when the monsoon season arrived because of the dangerously rainy season.
