Maasai is an African pastoral community.
The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group who live in Kenya's central, northern and southern regions, as well as north Tanzania in Africa. They are native to the Nile Valley and speak the Nilotic language. Their peculiar rituals and attire have made them well-known among locals. The Maa language, which is related to the Nilotic language family, is spoken by these Maasai people. However, presently, the majority of Maasai people talk in Tanzania and Kenya's official languages. The governments of Kenya and Tanzania encouraged them and attempted to persuade them to forsake their semi-nomadic pastoral lifestyle and integrate them into society. However, they maintained their ceremonies and practices.
