Which one of the following is known as pavement epithelium?

Tissue having a single layer of cells compactly arranged and resting over a non-cellular basement membrane are called simple epithelial tissues. They are classified as squamous epithelium, stratified epithelium, cuboidal epithelium, and ciliated epithelium on the basis of the size and shape of epithelial cells.

Simple squamous epithelium is a single layer of thin flattened cells that forms thin delicate sheets of cells through which molecules can easily pass (diffusion, filtration, etc.). 

Since the cells of simple squamous epithelium fit closely together like the tile on the floor hence, it is also known as pavement epithelium.
