Detailed Solution

Plateau is not a feature of the northern plain. The northern plains are flat land formed by the deposition of the sediments brought by the rivers. The northern plains are rich in alluvium and are fertile plains for agriculture. The northern plains also have variations of relief such as Bhabar and Terai. The Bhabar is a narrow belt where the rivers and streams deposit pebbles after descending the mountains. Rivers and streams disappear in this belt and then reemerge to the south of the belt forming a swampy marshy region known as Terai. Bhangar and Khadar are types of alluvium. Bhangar is old alluvium and Khadar is new alluvium.
